01 — Overview

How does a bilingual AI receptionist work for a Canadian business?

It plugs into your existing Canadian phone setup over SIP — Bell Total Connect, Telus Business Connect, Rogers Unison, RingCentral CA, Aircall CA, or any Canadian SIP trunk. Your 1-8XX or local Canadian numbers stay on your provider; Open answers in the caller's language (English or French Canadian) automatically.

Canadian businesses have a problem most international competitors don't: every customer interaction needs to work in two languages, and Quebec customers in particular expect French Canadian (not Parisian French) and they will hang up on a service that doesn't deliver. Hiring bilingual receptionists across timezones from Halifax to Vancouver is expensive when you can find them — and impossible to staff at the schedule customers expect.

Open answers every inbound call in under two seconds. The AI auto-detects the caller's language from their first sentence (or from the number they dialled — bilingual businesses run separate numbers, Open routes to the matching language) and runs the rest of the conversation in that language. French Canadian uses québécois pronunciation and vocabulary, not metropolitan French. English uses Canadian conventions where they matter.

The integration is a SIP destination on whatever Canadian provider you already use. We support Bell Total Connect, Telus Business Connect, Rogers Unison, RingCentral CA, Aircall CA, 8x8 X-Series Canada, Zoom Phone Canada, Mitel/MiVoice deployments, and any standards-compliant Canadian SIP trunk. 1-800/888/877/866/855/844/833 toll-free, 416/604/514/403/506/etc local numbers — all supported.

PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25 alignment is built in. Data residency in Canadian AWS regions (Central, Calgary) is available for regulated-sector clients; US residency is the default for clients without Canadian data-residency obligations. Recording and transcription consent prompts are configurable to match your federal and provincial privacy policies. PII redaction covers SIN, health-card numbers, and provincial driver licence formats.

Setup is same-day for most Canadian businesses. The bottleneck is usually waiting on Bell or Telus to provision the SIP trunk; once that's in place, we're answering test calls within minutes. Bilingual flows are configured once and apply to every agent across your account.
